App Dependency Depends on the app. This page describes how the P in the Cup app is intended to work. The app is not live yet, and details may change before launch.

Community & mutual-aid groups Planned

A shared commitment for your circle, with nobody singled out.

For clubs, faith and community groups, volunteer teams and mutual-aid circles whose adult members want to take on a voluntary commitment together. Joining says nothing about anyone's health or history: people take part for many reasons.

The random scheduling and accountability service is free. Test kits and any laboratory testing are purchased separately.

A future pathway, for adults only

Community groups are planned after the four main experiences, and nothing here is available yet. Members must be adults: groups with members under 18, including youth groups and schools, are not supported.

What a group gets

Do it together, keep it private

A neutral group activity

A group calendar and voluntary check-ins, with plain, non-clinical language that makes no assumptions about why anyone joined.

Fair, individual schedules

Each member's days are chosen at random in advance on their own device or the group's node. Nobody can predict another member's day.

Totals, not individuals

Organizers can see privacy-protected group totals when the group is large enough, never a list of who did what.

Join by link, no email

Anonymous enrollment through an expiring, revocable invitation link is planned, where it is technically feasible, without giving anyone an email address.

Encouragement, not ranking

Optional cooperative group goals only. No public scoreboards, and nothing tied to a test result.

Leave whenever you choose

Members can leave without the organizer's permission. Joining or not joining is nobody else's business.

Step by step Planned

How it works for you

  1. An organizer creates the group

Set a frequency, a group calendar and whether members join named, under an alias, or anonymously with aggregate-only reporting.

  2. Members join through an invitation link

Links expire, can be limited to a number of uses and can be revoked. The join screen explains exactly what the organizer will and will not see.

  3. Each member's days are set in advance

Days are chosen at random before each period and sealed with a verifiable commitment, so nobody can reroll them.

  4. The group sees a total, when it is safe to

Members follow through with separately purchased tests. The organizer sees participation as a group total only once enough members are counted.

Privacy model Planned

Aggregate-only, with small groups protected

  • Member vaults. Each member's own records are planned to stay in an encrypted vault on their device.
  • A group-owned node. Shared group data is planned to live on a server the group runs, not on P in the Cup's servers.
  • Small-group suppression. Below a minimum group size, the organizer sees "too few members for a group total" and nothing is reported.
  • No-email recovery caveat. If you join without an email address, you will need to keep your recovery key safe; losing it may mean losing your access.

No anonymity is absolute

Safeguards reduce the chance of someone being singled out but cannot guarantee anonymity, especially in a group where everyone knows each other. A nickname is not anonymity. See Privacy Explained.

Questions

Community group FAQ

Does joining mean someone has a substance problem?

No. People take on a voluntary commitment for many reasons, and the group mode is written to make no assumption about anyone's health or history.

Can our youth group use it?

No. Only adults can take part. Use with minors is not supported.

Will the organizer know who joined anonymously?

The design aims to prevent it: anonymous members appear only in group totals, and invitation records are not meant to reveal who joined. No safeguard is perfect in a group where people know each other.

Do we need an email address to join?

Email-free joining through an invitation link is planned where technically feasible. You would then be responsible for your own recovery key.

What does it cost?

The random scheduling and accountability service is free. Test kits and any laboratory testing are purchased separately.
